Do You Have a Seasonal Marketing Strategy?

As summer comes to a close and we start to shift into fall (and all things pumpkin spice), it’s time to consider your seasonal marketing. Content marketers tend to build strategies around “evergreen” content, which is relevant year-round and isn’t tied to seasons, events, or news. This content is often viewed as more valuable as it stays relevant for longer, but seasonal marketing has a place in every marketing strategy — as long as it's done well.

Here’s why seasonal marketing is effective and how you can use it.

Why Seasonal Content is Useful

If you are familiar with content marketing, it should come as no surprise that seasonal content can play an important role in your marketing strategy even if it isn’t designed to drive conversions year-round.

With seasonal marketing, you’ll find there is less competition, content has higher relevance, and you will benefit from cyclical traffic. Just because seasonal content isn’t effective all year long doesn’t mean its value can’t be revived for future seasons.

How to Use Seasonal Content

Plan for relevant content

As a content marketer, it can be hard to come up with consistent, interesting, and relevant topics. With seasonal marketing in your strategy, filling up your content calendar becomes much easier.

Start with major national holidays, then identify smaller “holidays” that are in line with your businesses’ services or mission. Be mindful when choosing topics and use those that have a natural connection to your brand. For example, National Tequila Day would work well for a bar or restaurant, but not so much for products targeted at health, wellness, or children.
As you can see, creating effective seasonal content requires some planning. Review opportunities far in advance to create quality content in time for the season.

Social media content

Social media marketing requires you to constantly develop interesting ways to engage your followers. When you make seasonal content part of your marketing strategy and create content on a timely basis, that task becomes much easier.

All the seasonal content you add to your site (blog posts, infographics) makes great material for social media channels. Keep in mind this content is cyclical, so you can reshare it for years to come. Just remember to update it, if necessary!
