So, I've spent the last month going over how to use social media for your business. You are probably itching to get started, but there's one more thing I still need to go over with you and that's how to actually create your social media profile.
It may seem like a pretty straight forward process. Most social media sites even walk you through it, but there are some little things you should include in your profile to make the most out of it.
With each social media site offering a different value, it's worth taking the time to set each one up properly. So here's a guide on how to set up that basics that go into each profile! (Stay tuned for a guide next week with more specifics about how to set up profiles on popular social media sites.)
Bio/Description
Your bio/description is obviously the ideal place to explain your business and your products, but it is also the perfect place to refer people to your website or other social media sites. Use this area to link to your website (which is ultimately where you want people in the first place)!
Your bio/description should be tailored to the audience on each particular social site. For example, your Facebook bio can be more fun and personal than your LinkedIn bio which would focus more on your skills.
Even though each profile will differ, your username or handle should be consistent across all sites. This makes it easier for people to identify you. For example, if they see your Twitter handle they can search for you on Instagram and should be able to find you that way.
Profile and Cover Photos
It's important for you to follow each social media sites guidelines for photos. You never know when your profile image is going to be used somewhere else so even though your headshot might look nice as a profile picture, it might not look so good on a mobile device.
With profile pictures, the simpler the better. Don't try to use a super text heavy image as your profile or cover photo. The photo is what draws people in and your bio/description is where they can get all the information they need about your business.
Finally, make sure your profile pictures are consistent across all social networks. You want to make it as easy as possible for people to recognize you so they know they've found the right account and can follow you without having to think twice about it.
Update Regularly
Your business is always growing and changing and your profiles should reflect that. Update your bio/description with the latest information about your business to keep it fresh. Your profile and cover photos are the same and should be updated regularly to keep things exciting for your current followers and eye catching for new followers.
