How Can Blogging Boost Your SEO?

You may remember when blogging took off – it was a way for people to post about their lives on the internet. Now it’s become a must for businesses of all sizes to grow their following, gain traffic, and improve visibility in SERPs (search engine result pages). So, what changed? Well, the realization that blogs are a great tool to prove expertise in the industry while simultaneously improving search engine optimization (SEO) was a big help. If you aren’t currently blogging, here’s why it’s important to start.

Start with SEO

The goal of SEO is to get your business to rank as close to the top of the search results page as possible. SEO involves several different tactics including relevant keywords, gaining links from other sites, and optimizing your site for things like speed and length. Just as marketing is always evolving, SEO is too. It can be challenging to keep up with SEO best practices as search engines themselves are constantly changing and how sites rank is frequently reevaluated, but it is well worth the effort.

When done well, SEO can get your business a boost in traffic, which leads to an increase in leads and conversions. Combining blogging with SEO is a powerful digital marketing strategy that can help your business thrive.

How Do Blogging and SEO Work Together?

Regular blogging (we recommend 1x/week) is helpful for your website’s SEO for three main reasons:

  1. Blogs provide fresh content
  2. Google puts a high value on regular updates of new and original content. This lets Google know that your site is active and putting content out that people want or need. With a frequently updated blog, your business provides fresh content for search engines to index (include in their results) while also giving your followers new information about your brand. Blogs position you as an expert in your field while maintaining current and potential customer interest and boosting ranking.
  3. Blogs offer an opportunity to work in the keywords you want to rank for
  4. Keywords are the foundation of any good SEO campaign. These are the phrases or words that people are most likely to type in when looking for the products/services your business provides. If you’re an air conditioner repair service in Tampa Bay, you will want to rank for phrases like “AC Tampa” but for phrases used by people in need of air conditioner repair like “broken air conditioner”. For keywords to work, they need to appear on your site, or else search engines won’t pick them up. Blog posts are a great place to naturally include these keywords making your site show up higher in searches.
  5. Blogs invite links from other high-quality sites
  6. Think of links as a sort of online testimonial. The more testimonials you get, the more likely customers are to find your business to be trustworthy. At the same time, Google is more likely to endorse you with a high page ranking. Blogs are an easy way to discuss important topics relevant to your business where you can share your expertise – and other sites in the industry will want to link back to those blogs. The more links you receive, the more reliable Google will find your site to be and the higher your site will appear in search results page rankings.

How Does Squarespace Perform for SEO?

The other day I met with a friend-of-a-friend who also happens to be a website designer/developer. Excited to make another friend in the field, we quickly got to talking about various platforms and tools we use. When he asked what platform we use at KP Kreative, I excitedly started to share all we are able to accomplish through Squarespace. And then, I kid you not, he scoffed out, “...but Squarespace sucks for SEO”. A bit more back and forth and I knew I had to do some digging for myself. Our websites all perform well for SEO, but is there something that we’re missing?
