Tips and Tricks for Creating a Content Marketing Calendar

Content is arguably a very important part of any marketing strategy. After all, how else are you going to communicate your offers? Once you’ve established a fool-proof marketing strategy and the types of content you want to create, you should spend time figuring out how will you go about publishing that content.

Sure, you have someone to write your content, but planning when to publish the content is the tricky part. For example, if you’re planning a Facebook campaign, you can’t just post stuff at random times because there’s a big chance your audience won’t even see it. That’s where a marketing calendar can come in handy.

What is a Content Marketing Calendar?

Simply put, it’s a strategy of when you’re going to publish your marketing content – also, this is not to be confused with an editorial calendar. That’s right; you need more than one calendar.

Your content calendar can include any marketing content you have, including blogs, posts, emails, videos, etc.

So, here are some tips and tricks for creating a content marketing calendar:

Establish a Publishing Process

Before you get into the specific dates/times, make sure you establish exactly who will be responsible for publishing your content. I recommend that you put a standard or recurring process in place for this in order to scale your efforts.

Use Convenient Platforms

Whether you have a big or small company, make sure to take advantage of tools/platforms that allow several people to access your calendar. At KP Kreative, we use Google Docs/Google Sheets.

Be Specific

Make sure you establish which content will be posted when and to what platform. Be specific and ensure your content titles match the calendar entries. We don’t want to post the wrong offer on the wrong day!

Include a Status and Engagement Update

Once you’ve created the calendar, try to have a “status” process in place indicating when the content was used and how it performed.

That’s it! If this is too complicated or time-consuming for you, contact us and we’ll set up a custom marketing strategy for you!
